Proposed high-voltage lines could affect Greenfield Township
A project called Grid Growth East is now in the study stage for Fairfield County. Grid Growth Ventures —
a joint venture of Transource Energy (AEP and Evergy) and FirstEnergy Transmission
—
was selected by PJM, the regional grid operator, to plan two new 765-kilovolt transmission lines totaling about 74 miles. Those lines would connect facilities between the Coshocton/Guernsey area and Pickaway/Fairfield counties.
No final route has been chosen. That is the point. Study segments are being reviewed now, and once a route is locked in it is much harder to change. Lines of this size typically use towers around 175 feet tall and a right-of-way on the order of 180 feet. That kind of corridor can cut across farms, homes, and the rural landscape Greenfield Township has worked to protect in its land-use plan.
Greenfield Township residents should be heard before any route is drawn through our community. If you own property near a study segment, farm in the township, or simply want these lines kept off local ground, now is the time to say so. The company will use comments from this round of meetings to refine preliminary routes. A second round of open houses is expected in early 2027, with an application to the Ohio Power Siting Board planned for spring 2027.
